Click that blog button! Check that shit out! So the Oscars, huh? Cool, right? Neat? Kinda. I guess. Anyone else think it's completely fucked up that there's a best foreign film category? Isn't it kind of anachronistic? I get that back in 1920 or whenever, when Hollywood's output represented 99% of all cinema made in the world, that made some semblance of sense... but now? In an age where we have tons of developed nations outputting a metric fuckload of films, isn't it kinda implicitly derisive? Hell, look at the horse shit we had in the running for best picture (Avatar and that Sandra Bullock movie?)... if I were a Chinese or Austrian or <insert nationality here> auteur, I'd be kind of pissed. I'd be damn confident whatever pretentious turd of a movie I shot that year was unquestionably better than the fucking Blind Side. You know what I just learned about? Juggalos. I'm glad I live in a world where they exist. I've never listened to Insane Clown Posse, so I can't comment on the quality of their music... but the fact that there exists a subculture of disaffected youth who, in their rebellion against society, conformity, whatever, dress up as angry clowns. And there are angry lady clowns and there is pornography out there of said angry lady clowns. It's surrealist fantasy come to life. Something out of the pages of A Clockwork Orange or right out of the Warriors. I mean I've always been wary of nonconformist subcultures because they're inherently conformist to their own arbitrary standards. But with Juggalos, it's so farcical, it's a statement, regardless if it's a conscious effort to make one or not. Can we have more of these please?
